What it is

A running estimate of real GDP growth for the current quarter, at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, updated as new economic data are released.

Why it matters for investors

Official GDP data arrive weeks after a quarter ends. GDPNow gives a model-based read on growth in the meantime.

How to read it

Treat it as a nowcast, not a forecast: it has no judgment added, and it can move sharply early in a quarter when little data is available. It is not an official Federal Reserve forecast.
